Hi, I’m Benjamin, and CloudburzT is my one-man progressive metal project.

I grew up playing football, but got a bad knee injury when I was 13 years old in 2002. I asked my parents if I could have a guitar, and I got pleasently surprised when they said yes. My first guitar was an acoustic Fender Sierra Vista. I learned a few chords on it, and I quickly took an interest to bands such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains. Soon after I got my first electric guitar, which was a Hohner Stratocaster Special. As my interest for the heavier genres grew over the years, I more and more found myself looking up to James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett from Metallica. Later that interest took a turn towards the progressive metal scene, and to this day that is still where I feel most at home. It was especially Dream Theater that caught my attention. Their technical approach to music, and especially the fresh sounding “Images & Words” album, caught my attention and I was hooked. Although I do wander off to other genres on occasion, I always come back to progressive metal.  As the years went by guitars came and went, and these days my main ones are three Ibanez guitars.

My biggest passion in playing the instrument has always revolved around writing my own music. Being able to create both melodic and intricate parts weaving in and out of one another quickly became my goal. I dabble in a few other instruments, such as keyboard and drums, and I sing if needed. I take great pride in knowing music theory somewhat well, and this has certainly helped me in my quest towards writing more music.

CloudburzT is the culmination of playing guitar (and music) since 2002. It is so far a solo project citing inspiration from Dream Theater, Psychotic Waltz, Ayreon and many more bands – not only in progressive metal.

Many of my songs revolve around space, but I also enjoy working on covers, specifically from the Final Fantasy soundtrack, or any other JRPG.
